James Blunt promised the audience at the MTV Australia Video Music Awards a "pretty wild" performance before taking to the stage with Australian model Megan Gale. And the soldier-turned-crooner's enthusiastic approach certainly paid dividends, as he ended up taking home the Song of the Year gong for his hit single You're Beautiful.

James was joined at the Sydney SuperDome event by a host of Aussie celebs including actor and occasional musician Russell Crowe. The Master And Commander star added to the evening's festivities by taking to the stage himself. Also multi-tasking on the night was American actress and chanteuse Ashlee Simpson, who hosted the gala as well as performing.

It was a big night for the 21-year-old blonde as she proved a double winner, picking up trophies for Best Female Artist and Best Pop Video for her song Boyfriend.
