Ashlee just performed a concert in Arizona to help raise money for the homeless!
Singer and actress Ashlee Simpson raised her voice at a fund-raising concert held Sunday to support homeless youths in Tucson.
The Tucson Convention Center show was organized by local high school students. They'll donate the proceeds to Our Family, a local nonprofit organization that supports homeless and poor people of all ages.
The students are part of TEAM Tucson, which stands for Teen Empowerment and Advocacy Movement. They hoped to raise about $35,000 through the event, said 17-year-old Josh Offenhartz, chief executive officer of TEAM Tucson and a junior at Sabino High School.
Offenhartz said he met with Simpson Sunday afternoon. She was "excited to be here and that it was for a good cause."
TEAM Tucson is a nonprofit group of high school students who organize fund-raising events to prevent youth homelessness. The members met one other last spring at a Washington, D.C., conference that supported understanding and community outreach. They decided to form an organization to fight problems at home.
Paul Cunningham, adult adviser of TEAM Tucson, said he is happy for the students, who organized the entire event with little outside help.
"They pulled their stuff together and made this happen," he said. "The kids are just a great group. I'm really proud of them."
